Two Seasons of Schweitzer Fanatics

During the winter season, there are those folks around Schweitzer who ski these unbelievable lines through some of the tightest trees you can imagine and somehow still make it out alive. I, on the other hand, am the Queen of Freaking Out. I follow those crazed tree-hounds as much as I can and then breathe an exhilarated sigh of relief when we get back to the lift. My adrenaline is pumping and somehow through my half fear-half exhilaration, I’ve gotten “that look” in my eye that loosely translates to “OH YEAH! Let’s do that again!”

I love those crazy tree people. They help me continue to try new things while I’m out on the mountain and really continue to love this sport that is a part of me, even though I’m nowhere are good a skier or rider as they are.

When the seasons change, these mountain fanatics find a whole ‘nother way to keep that adrenaline pumping – mountain biking. Now, I’m a mountain biker in that I own a mountain bike and ride it to the grocery store in Sandpoint. It may get a little dirty as I ride it through the backyard, as that’s been about the extent of my off-road riding.

Well, it was until these awesome mountain people got a hold of me.

Turns out, there’s a whole lot of fun taking that mountain bike out on the trails for which it was actually designed. Carving a turn, popping over rocks, cruising down a single-track through the trees… kinda reminds me of what I love to do in winter.

Yes, Schweitzer offers us a second season to cruise through trees and breathe an exhilarated sigh when we arrive back to the lift for another round.

There are loads of trails to explore on our cross-country routes and on our intermediate and advance downhill trails from the summit. You'll love the exhilaration a little jaunt through the trees can give you. Summer’s coming and the mountain fanatics are calling.
