Sandpoint- Nothing beats a summer sendoff like barbecues, microbrews and free live music… Schweitzer Mountain Village will be the venue with a view for Labor Day weekend festivities. Hosting the 17th annual Fall Fest, the resort will celebrate a successful summer season and welcome in winter with this hopping taste of fall.
Saturday and Sunday, September 5th and 6th, five different bands will offer an accompaniment to the tastings of 20 different microbrews, local wines and soda tasting for the kids. The “People’s Choice” competition for the best beer is back this year, and ballots can be found in the popular Fall Fest collector’s mugs and steins.
Discounted lift tickets will be offered as well for the mountain’s last summer weekend - an unlimited day pass will be offered at the price of a single-ride ticket at just $10 per adult.
Festivities will kick off at 11am on Saturday with a barbecue and arts and crafts vendors in the village, until 6pm. Lifts will also open at 11am and run until 6pm. The concert will open with the appropriately-named Stout Pounders at 1pm followed by Milonga from 3-6pm. Sunday’s sounds will start early with the Albeni Falls Pipe and Drum at 11:45am the Ian McFeron Band at 1pm and Adrian Xavier’s reggae rhythms will rock the village from 3-6pm.
In addition to the Fall Fest fun, this will be the last weekend to play mountain-top disc golf, take a guided horseback ride, test out the new lift-access mountain bike trails, and simply enjoy the summer scenery from the top of Schweitzer before it is covered in snow. All hiking and biking trails will close for the season on September 7, 2009.
Lodging is still available for the weekend and Fall Fest is the perfect time to enjoy the Schweitzer Great Escape Package, which offers a $30 in adventure bucks per night per person to be spent anywhere on the mountain or for adventures in Sandpoint or Silverwood Theme Park. Packages are based on quad occupancy and start at $59 per night.
