Cheryl Crandall-Williams 

Cheryl is diverse with her talents ranging from being an avid horse enthusiast, artist, certified strength and conditioning specialist, and has a doctorate in physical therapy. Oh, did we mention that she also teaches skiing? Cheryl has been coaching skiing for 10 years at Arizona Snowball and has recently joined the Schweitzer team. While she enjoys introducing the mountain experience to all ages, Cheryl's advice to all is "the mountain steeps can be intimidating for many individuals. When you find the intimidation factor is getting the best of you, stop for a moment and....breathe....laugh....and most of all have fun!!"

Becki Davis-Moore 

Becki's teaching style is all about guiding gently although she can adjust for individual learning styles. Sliding downhill on snow is one of her greatest joys in life and she wants to share it with as many folks as possible. Some of Becki's other interests you may want to talk to her about on the chairlift include swimming, horseback riding and dancing. She has lived in Europe and learned to ski as an adult in Austria. If you were to run into Becki on the Abracadabra run, she would probably smile and tell you that wearing stripes with plaid is no big deal!

Ursula Graef

If "fun" and "learning" go together in your mind, then you will enjoy her coaching. Ursula has been a ski instructor for 20 years. She began teaching at Mammoth Mountain in California. The fall of 1991 was her first season at Schweitzer, and she is still here! She is very enthusiastic about continuing her learning so she can share it with you!!

Gary Carlson

After retiring from his "day job," Gary joined the Schweitzer Snowsports School in 1996. Gary is responsible for starting the Nice Turns Adult Ski Improvements Program seven years ago with only six students. This program has become so popular that it now has about 100 students. Gary's words of wisdom are "Don't let your age be a deterrent to your aspirations."

Ray Ross

Ray, AKA "Sugar," likes it "S.W.E.E.T."! (Skiing With Efficient & Effective Turns) Whether you are the first time beginner or you dig double black diamonds, Ray has a bag of tricks to make it all easy. His lessons will show you a blend of skills and attitude that will enhance your mountain experience for a lifetime. Ray wants folks to know that skiing should be fun at all levels. With some instruction, you'll have fun, ski better and be safe. Ray has a passion for skiing & teaching so book him and get your "Sugar" fix!

Ryanne Lemon

This girl does it all! Catch her for a ski, snowboard, XC classic, or XC skate lesson when she's not in B Chute trees. Not only can Ryanne teach just about any discipline, she makes some pretty awesome hats. Ask her and maybe she'll make one for you!

Spencer Huender

If it slides on snow, Spencer can teach it. All ages, all abilities, all disciplines. Not only is Spencer one of our most requested instructors for skiing he is also trained to handle adaptive skiing equipment. When Spencer isn’t teaching (which is a rare moment) you can find him charging down his favorite run, Stiles.

Michael Arthurhults

Michael tends to freeride like a madman, especially on powder days! You'll find him ridin' the trees and lookin' for the goods in B Chute trees. When the powder is all tracked out, Artherhults goes straight to the park where you'll catch a glimpse of him slidin' rails and improving his air time. Michael's advice to all is "get out and ride!"

Mary Jo Knowles

Are you looking for a instructor who has a nurturing demeanor. Well Mary Jo is your gal. She truly enjoys working with women to further their enjoyment of skiing whether they are new to the sport or interested in pursuing advanced skills. She takes the time to understand exactly what you need and any concerns you have about the day.  Her favorite part of a lesson is seeing the grin of success on each students face.

Larry Keister

Larry Keister is one of our most sought after instructors from the more “mature” clientele. Larry will quickly have you mastering the skills needed to enjoy skiing. In a previous life he was a big wig in the military and now he works closely with our Nice Turns program, but with some advanced notice is also available for private lessons.

Suzanne Grutzner

Although Suzanne claims to be a snowboarder we have spotted her occasionally on skis. Her teaching focus is to promote good riding skills and ultimately out ride the boys. In advanced lessons she likes to tear up K-Macs or cruise Cathedral on the backside. Oh, and good luck finding her on a powder day! We highly recommend reservations if Suzanne sounds like the perfect match.

Eric Reiman

Ready to Rage! Come grab Eric for an all mountain snowboarding adventure. He connects well with kids of all ages and knows how to keep things moving. Eric is committed to perfecting his terrain park skills, but also finds time for the steep and deep of South Bowl.

Bill Weiden

Call him Wild Bill and be ready to master skiing from the powder to hard snow, from the top of the mountain to the bottom, while still have a grand time! Bill has 30 years of skiing and ski racing knowledge, & he love's to share. He was elected to Ski Magazine's first annual top 100 instructor's list and has a contagious knowledge & enthusiasm for a life sport he truly enjoys. Favorite runs off of Chair 6. Has never had a bad day on skis. And love's a storm.... must be the Norwegian in him!!!

Brian Lojek

Brian is probably one the most energetic and creative instructors on the planet. If your kids get into a lesson with Brian we can guarantee they won’t want to stop skiing. Your kids will come away with the knowledge of every “secret” trail on the mountain. He is also a professional chocolate chip cookie tester-just ask him and bring cookies!

Jessica Trygstad

Jessica is another one of our many talented kids instructors. She loves working with kids of varying abilities, from those just begining, to the adventure minded powder seekers.  You can usually find her with a group of kids around, but she also loves to encourage women to take that next step.  Her favorite place to ride is a fresh stash of powder in the trees.  Make sure to make a reservation with Jessica because she is often booked.

Chip Swett 

Chip has spent many years working with disabled clients, children, and timid, concerned adults. He is there for you and will work at your pace. Chip is from Rexford Montana and learned to ski in Sunday River Maine. His favorite run is White Heat, you will have to ask him where that is. Chip's tip of the day is "Suspension - use your joints, ankles, knees and hip joints all together all the time."

James Zimmerman 

Born to a Norwegian family, Jim began skiing at the tender age of 2. He began his teaching career at the age of 18 in the local mountains of southern California and then graduated to the big mountains of the Sierras and Lake Tahoe. Jim taught at Mammoth and Sugar Bowl for over a decade before he moved to North Idaho, specifically for Schweitzer Mountain. He has been with us for 3 years, and his favorite run here at Schweitzer is Pucci's Chute. His tip of the day is: "Every Challenge met and every obstacle overcome is progress and should be considered a victory!"

Roger Nicholson 

Roger is a consumate engineer and loves to teach technical, but he will also say things like: "do this", "follow me", or "see you at the chair." He hails from Seattle Washington and Perth Australia. He learned to ski at Snoqualmie Pass and at Schweitzer he can usualy be found free skiing int he JR trees. His tip of the day is: "Before you ride, pull up your pants a bit, jump in the air a few inches and you start with a perfect "happy" stance."

Liliana Barbieri 

In winter she works as a ski instructor and for the remainder of the year she transforms into an artist, graphic designer, gardener, and food enthusiast. Her teaching style offers a positive approach designed to enhance skill development for the young, young-at-heart, first-timers and advanced skiers. She has a talent to create a safe and supportive coaching environment to take your skiing to the next level and more challenging terrain while creating a memorable experience on the mountain to get you hooked on skiing. Prior to working at Schweitzer, Liliana taught skiing at Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe, California. Come and share her passion for skiing at Schweitzer!

Bob Stiger 

Making the step from cruising groomers to the exhilaration of floating through the powder off trail is an experience that Bob would like to share with everyone at any age. Bob started skiing late in life, and quickly became an avid skier. This year he has retired from his day job (for the second time) and is finally a full time skier. He says that the step from intermediate to expert is simply honing a few skills and the desire to experience skiing at a different level. Let Bob take you to that next level, and remember, “While you are only young once, you can ski your entire life.”

Tina Sundquist 

Tina is a very patient person who understands the fears of her students. She is also great at encouraging her students and putting them at ease. Her sense of humor and enthusiasm for winter sports is catching and her classes are set up for success.  Tina loves to ski E chute, Kohli Big Timber, and Snag Line. Her tip is; "think about other activities you do in your life and incorporate these in your skiing. Have fun and enjoy every stage of skiing you are at. Hire a coach and truly enjoy your choice of snow sports."

Jeff Miller 

Jeff started skiing in 1951 at the age of 7 and became interested in instructing while in college. He enjoys steeps, bumps and powder as well as teacing people to ski at all levels. Jeff has taught at Schweitzer for 3 years and his favorite run is Sundance. He is originally from Altoona PA and learned to ski at Seven Springs. His tip for you is; "At all levels of skiing, try to concentrate on starting the weight transfer for the initiation of each new trun as early as possible. Practice transfering the weight to the outside ski of the new trun while it is still the uphill ski."

Matthew Kennedy 

Matt Kennedy is a devoted enthusiast of mountain sports and he is certified in three disciplines. He started teaching snowboarding when he was 14 as an instructor’s assistant at White Pass in Washington. At the age of 16 Matt became an instructor and started pursuing more training. Matt now works at Schweitzer Mountain Resort where he teaches and trains full time and considers himself a “snowsports professional.” Matt says “the most important step in improving your skills is to not only set a goal, but have an action plan for achieving that goal. The journey of learning determines what you actually end up learning so find a reason to get out and go riding.”

Chris LoBosco began skiing at age 9 in the Colorado Rockies.  As a young adult he spent nearly a decade teaching snowboarding and sking in the Tahoe Basin.   He loves to travel for play or work.  Travel highlights include New Zealand, China, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize, Mexico, and Canada.  Chris is patient, compassionate and speaks a little spanish when nessacary.  Although enthusiastic about the sport, Chris is also mellow and easy to get along with.  "Leave the egos at home, and let's go slide."

Sarah Emmer started skiing at the age of 6.  Her favorite run is Loop Hole Loop.  She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her family.  She learned to ski by following her dad and he still remains her inspiration.  She has a bachelor's degree in political science and is on her way to a second degree in nursing.  Sarah's tip of the day is, "Keep your hands up, your chin up, and your spirits up!"

Jim Russell 

Do you need to learn how to ski powder, trees, moguls, steeps and fast grromers better? Then look up Jim on weekends and holidays to become a more accomplished all mountain skiier! This season marks his 10th at Schweitzer. Jim, a local who lives and plays in Bottle Bay, grew up on NY"s Long Island, but didn't learn to ski until his mid 20s.  Friday nights found Jim at Snoqualmie Pass taking lessons from UW ski club instructors. Jim's goal with every student is to improve their technique and efficiency so they have more energy to ski mulitple days i variable conditions without excessive fatigue creeping up on them during a week long ski trip.

             Can teach: Skiers of all abilities, gender, and ages
          Specialty: All mountian skiing in open bowls, trees,  moguls, steeps and groomers.

Lisa Young

A double threat in that she is happy teaching little ones or adults whether they choose to ski or board.  She is very patient and will always greet you with a smile.  She works hard to make her students comfortable by alleviating fears and having fun.  When not riding her favorite run off the T-bar she can be found on her mountain bike, hiking, or playing with her dog Josie.  To sum it up in ten words or less Lisa says, "Relax. Have fun. Look where you want to go."
