Terrain Park

The Latest

(2-6-10)
You’ll notice a few changes this week.  For one, the Terrain Garden has been moved to just off of Midway; check it out when you’re riding up the Basin Express.  We have plans to put a few very small features back on Musical Chairs for small children, nothing too exciting for you bigger kids. We’ll continue to add a few features to the Garden in the new location over this next week.  You’ll also notice when you get in the park that the Wallride is up front and center.  It’s been awhile so we’re excited to get it back out and open to the public.  If you haven’t heard yet, we’re having a competition on it next Saturday, check out “Shot in the Dark” on Schweitzer’s home page for more details.  With the new snow this week, I’m hoping there’ll be enough to get more of the main line going throughout the week, and expect to see some of the other rails you’ve been waiting for to get set up too.  It’s college days this weekend so we could see an influx of riders that are new to our park.  Be considerate of others, call your drop in, and always watch for others that may be dropping in above you.  Have a safe and fun weekend.  We’ll see you out there.

Well time is flying by, almost February! Where’s the snow? We had hopes of getting our middle line in the park and the wallride going this week and simply ran out of snow. It won’t take a whole lot more so hopefully this weekend we’ll get what we need, but as logs and stumps rolled down the run next to my cat, we figured we better pull the plug. We did some rearranging on the right hand line to get ready for our USASA Slopestyle contest this Saturday, and the features are flowing nicely. They’ll be closed to public for the majority of Saturday, but will be open once the competition is over.  There’ll be some rope lines up surrounding the course that aren’t normally there so be aware of those; as with any rope line, please do not duck.  Let’s have a safe and fun weekend.  Hopefully we’ll get a little snow to finish up some more features.  Thanks.

We’ve been doing a lot of pushing this week and I feel like stuff’s coming together nicely. We’ve got our main line down the center of the park started and our goal is to have rails/boxes on the first mound and two jumps and the wallride up Wednesday night.  Other than a few mechanical issues, the winching process is going smoothly and we’ve still got a lot of snow down low to farm, it just takes a lot of time to push it that far.  You all kept it safe over the holiday weekend and it’s much appreciated.  On a side note, if you are one of the people jumping our ropes and breaking our bamboo, you’re keeping us from being able to afford features.  Bamboo is expensive and our budget is limited, so keep that in mind the next stick you break.  And if you want to keep riding our park. . .  Yours wouldn’t be the first pass I’ve taken.  If you are one of the parents bringing small children through the park, you are completely welcome, but please be aware of your surroundings and keep them off of the jump landings.  People are going fast and jump landings are no place to learn to snowplow.  The Terrain Garden is a great place for small children to get the feeling of rolls and transitions, and the small Rider X on Crystal now has four good size bank turns for your skiing and riding pleasure.  Thank you for everyone’s cooperation.  Let’s have another fun and safe weekend.  Thanks a lot, I’m gonna go snowboarding for twenty-four hours now.

Triple jump line finally! Whew! 3 ½ nights of winching provided us with enough snow to get the third jump in our medium/large line up and running today.  This snow is helping a lot, it got pretty dicey for a bit, but we’re looking good to start pushing snow from above and below with a winch after the holiday weekend.  We’ll also be reorganizing some of the rails and boxes that have been in for awhile and getting a course prepared for the USASA Slopestyle coming up in a  couple of weeks.  Have a great holiday weekend; call your drop and make sure your landings are clear, it’ll probably get pretty busy out there.  And look forward to seeing a lot of new stuff being set up over the course of next week.  Thanks for enjoying the Stomping Grounds.

I’ve already seen some pretty impressive stuff go down on the new double jump line, I can’t wait to get the third built.  We’ve been working all week to get some new stuff up for all you park riders, and things are coming together slowly. We’ve pretty much exhausted our snow supply around the upper features, but I’m planning to start winching snow up Sunday night to get the third jump in what will be the medium jump line done this week.  We rebuilt the Terrain Garden and added a few turns to the Rider X on Crystal as well.  As always, check stuff out before you hit it, and have a fun and safe weekend.

Well kids, with Christmas Break about over and Night Skiing resuming its normal schedule, Cole and I can get back to pushing this new snow into something worthwhile.  Expect to be hitting some fun new features and some banked turns on Crystal next weekend, we’ll start digging out and rebuilding on Sunday night.  The first medium jump in the three jump line seems to be working well, the second one isn’t far off.  Feel free to stop by and offer suggestions and ideas for what you all want to see; and thank you for helping us have a successful holiday here in the Stomping Grounds Terrain Park.

Merry Christmas park riders. I hope your holidays are going great, Santa brought you all the Tall-Ts and bandanas you asked for, and you’re getting plenty of delicious Christmas cookies. As for the terrain park world, we’re kind of out of snow at the moment.  We’ve begun to push a medium three pack on the right side of the park, which at the moment is a 1 ½ pack, unfortunately we’ve scraped it to the dirt again. Cole got pretty creative pulling snow from out of the trees, and we hope to get one of the three up and running for you all soon.  Meanwhile, enjoy the new rails and boxes we’ve set up and the small/med. jump in the center of the park.  Let’s have a safe Christmas week and watch out for your fellow riders, there’ll be a lot of them.  Keep it slow in the slow zones and be respectful of others.  Thanks a lot.

We’re slowly getting a few more features up for all of you to hit.  We’ve been pushing snow around in the park to try to get some jumps built, unfortunately it’s still very thin in there.  Every blade full seems to consist of dirt mixed in, but it’ll be here soon, don’t worry.  I’ll be toning down the Terrain Garden tonight to make it a little more inviting for beginners and little kids so I’ll just apologize for that now, it needs to be done though.  I’m glad everyone had some fun on it, and to all of you who were being responsible and following the rules, thank you.  As for this week, hopefully this warm weather doesn’t take too much of our snow away.  If any of you have ideas or special requests for features that don’t take much snow, let me know, I’d love your input.  We’ll just keep putting a couple things up every couple of nights until we get some snow to push up some bigger features.  I’m excited to see everybody on Christmas break, just remember to be respectful and be aware of those around you as the hill gets busier.

Alright park rats, week three. You are all getting pretty creative on the few features we have up, I’m seeing some stuff I’ve never seen before and I’m glad you are keeping entertained for the most part. We just got a second jump up in the Terrain Garden and the speed seems pretty good (I just tested them with a fresh till, but I wax often so you might consider that too). Cole’s gonna pile a little more snow on the start mound to make it easier for all of you who don’t own an iron.  It sounds like we could have some snow in the near future, so if that’s true, we can start to make things happen in the park.  Ben just welded up some steel barrels and a shotgun rainbow that should be fun, you’ll see the barrels up soon. As for you kids jibbing our bamboo, please don’t, it’s $1.70 per stick and I don’t want to have to start charging you for it ‘cause I round up to $3.00 – you know who you are. I’m glad you’re all keeping it safe. If you are riding the features on Musical Chairs, have respect for those around you; there are a lot of lessons and little kids around there so play nice with others. Have a great weekend and keep your fingers crossed for some snow.

They all come out for A Day For Heather. "I just grabbed the warmest thing in my closet."

Tower session - Roll cameras!

(12-4-09)
Still haven’t received any snow, but it’s Friday night and a little is coming down.  Some of the dips and rocks are getting filled in and covered up slowly but surely by grooming and riding traffic, but be aware that a lot of hazards still exist throughout the park. We’ve had some requests to make the single tower takeoff urban, so that’s the plan for Saturday night, just to try to mix things up a bit and keep you all entertained. We’re also planning on getting a few features set up in the Terrain Garden on Monday night so keep a lookout for those.  If we get a few inches over the next few nights, we’ll be able to get some more rails and boxes up, keep your fingers crossed.  Be sure to dress warm this weekend, it’s supposed to be bitter cold; and if you plan on hiking the park features all day, don’t forget to bring some drinking water up, we don’t have any worth drinking in the park shack.  Thanks for being patient, and just remember what time of year it is – dang early.

(11-27-09) OPENING DAY 09/10!
Welcome back to the Stomping Grounds Terrain Park.  Opening in six hours as I write this, we’ve got a couple of features set up to get you all started, and it’s snowing outside.  I hope you’re all as excited for the season as I am.  Just remember to take it slow and start small, we’ve got a whole lot of riding to do over the next few months.  If you haven’t checked out the site lately, I encourage you to do so.  There are some new links on our safety page, and we’ll continue to update throughout the season.  If you are planning on riding the couple of features we have, be aware of the early season conditions, coverage is thin and conditions variable throughout the park.  We’ll be adding more stuff as snow allows, so as usual this time of year, be patient and get your legs under you.  Have some fun first turns, and always follow the Skier Responsibility Code and Smart Style: Make A Plan, Look Before You Leap, Easy Style It, and Respect Gets Respect.
