Introducing "Crow's Bench"

In the 1890s, this area was pretty rough ‘n tumble. In nearby Hope, life was typical of the Old West. Across from the saloons lining Main Street was “the Crow’s Bench” — a row of benches that gave folks a place to talk and look out over the railroad and lake below. Drinking, rough talk and fighting were commonplace. But we like to think the Crow’s Bench also provided hardworking souls with a much-needed place to get together and have a good time.

The inspiration reminds us of yester yore but now we see a group of snow-covered friends and families, sitting and sipping beverages while swapping tall tales of deep snow and blower pow. Or perhaps it's a group of sun-kissed hikers, fingers stained purple after a summer day picking huckleberries, now hungry for a good meal. They sit, laugh, and savor the moment. Like a group of cackling birds, they’ve spent the day swooping around Schweitzer and now find themselves ensconced, like crows on a bench, at Humbird’s bar and eatery, hooting about their adventures. 

Our new restaurant in Humbird, celebrates that connection. When Crow's Bench opens during the Winter 2021/22 ski season, there will be 50 seats for table service and 15 spots at the bar where birds of a feather can share in laughter and companionship while enjoying regional cuisine next to a grand fireplace. 

We understand the need to just sit with our friends and have a good time. A need to reminisce in the present and dream about the past. Here’s to joining our Schweitzer friends and family for a drink or a meal at Crow’s Bench.
