Gearing Up for a La Niña Winter

What a difference a year makes. The long-range weather forecast has flipped from “El Niño = warm wet” to “La Niña = cold snowy” and Snowvember has given us hope that these weather forecasters are on to something big. Already we’ve seen 4 feet of new snow in the village ahead of opening. I hope that you’re as ready as I am, because we’ve got some make up “call in sick days” to use from last season.
The big news from this summer is that we have purchased Selkirk Powder Company's resort-based operation, upgraded all the equipment and retained the bulk of the staff, like James Rowland who will be overseeing operations of the new Schweitzer Backcountry Adventures. We’re stoked to have added this unique backcountry experience to the existing list of amenities we offer our guests and locals.
If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve upgraded our website and added a few new features like current parking status, enhanced real-time (live) web cameras, weather information, along with a new online booking engine. This helps our guests purchase and reserve products like rentals, lessons, and activities around the village ahead of time.
This winter, we’re planning to reintroduce our Sky House snowcat dinners, implement a new passholder perk called First Tracks, introduce Kids Ski Free Week December 7-13, and bring a few enhancements into the Lakeview Lodge like opening a quick grab & go outlet from the backside of the Burrito Bar. We’ve also converted the former Selkirk Powder reception area into a small retail space for those impulse items that will enhance your on-snow experience like hand warmers, sunscreen, lip balm, and more.
As always, we’ve got plenty of family-oriented activities just around the corner. What better way to spend the Thanksgiving holiday than with an overnight stay in the Humbird hotel during our Stay & Ski Free deal, and why not book a reservation at Crow’s Bench for their annual Harvest Dinner on Thanksgiving while you're at it? Skiing with Santa has been a long-standing tradition and will return on December 23-24. Keep an eye out for Mr. and Mrs. Claus on the slopes.
It's that time of year. If you’re like me, you’ve been restless just thinking about those first turns. It’s almost time to come and get it.
