Construction Update: Schweitzer Creek Village, July 2026
This summer marks another major step forward for Schweitzer Creek Village. A local contractor is back on site, helping us move closer to the finish line on the new 1,400-space parking lot and roadway connecting to the Roundabout. When it's complete, it will create a whole new arrival experience for guests coming up to the mountain for the day.
If you've visited Schweitzer over the past few years, you've probably noticed the sign at the Roundabout pointing to a "future road." Ever since the roundabout was built, we've talked about what that road would eventually become. We're excited to say the future road is finally starting to take shape.
The question we hear most often is, "When will that new parking lot be ready?"
We'd love to give a definitive answer, but projects of this size come with a lot of moving pieces. Our goal is to have the road and parking lot paved and ready for use by the 2027/28 winter season. We've even explored the possibility of opening portions of the lot sooner, but factors like weather, materials, and budget can all impact the timeline.
As Tom Trulock mentioned in our Master Plan update in 2022, "When you think about the amount of dirt and rock we'll move, the magnitude of this project is massive. This will be the largest road and utility project in Schweitzer's history. Most people don't realize it's more than just a road and a parking lot. We have to plan for Schweitzer's future sewer, water, and power needs for the next 20 years and beyond."
For now, our focus is on the work happening this season and sharing regular progress updates with our community. At the moment, there are literally tons of earth still being moved every day as crews work to build the foundation for the new road and parking lot before winter arrives. On a typical day, haul trucks and excavators move between 3,000 and 3,700 cubic yards of dirt, roughly the volume of an Olympic-sized swimming pool. While it may look repetitive from a distance, creating a stable, level surface for a project of this size takes careful planning, precision, and a tremendous amount of work.
In the coming weeks, a new vehicle bridge will arrive and be installed over Schweitzer Creek, providing two lanes of access in and out of the future parking area. This bridge will be a major milestone, connecting the new roadway and bringing us one step closer to opening the next chapter of Schweitzer's arrival experience.
