Your Schweitzer Summer Family Itinerary
It’s summer in the Inland Northwest, which means everyone is looking to go camping, swimming, hiking, and ultimately spend as much time outside as possible. But if your family is anything like mine, you know that the hardest part about getting out of the house is getting everyone to agree on a plan for the day. One kid wants to hike, the other wants to go swimming, and the other doesn’t even want to leave the house.
While we can’t come and settle sibling disputes, we can offer up what we think is the perfect option for any family — Schweitzer. Nestled in the Idaho Panhandle, up in the cool mountain air, the view of Lake Pend Oreille alone makes it all worth the visit. But paired with plenty of activities across the mountain to keep everyone smiling, it’s a trip your whole family will be glad you made. And don’t worry, we already have an itinerary crafted just for you.
Fuel up at Mojo. Parents, I think we can all agree that there’s no such thing as too much coffee. Even if you’re one of the few who can function on a caffeine-free diet, there are plenty of other options for the family. From coffee and smoothies to matcha, breakfast burritos, parfaits, and build-your-own sandwiches, Mojo’s Coyote Cafe is the perfect first stop to give you a pep in your step as you begin your day.
Visit the Summer Activity Center. Our incredible staff is ready to help you create a game plan for your day. They can assist you with purchasing tickets for a scenic lift ride, the zip line, trampoline bouncer, rock climbing wall, sluice box – or they can set you up with the Ultimate Fun Pass, granting you or your little one access to unlimited activities across the Village.
*Pro-Tip: You can purchase your lift tickets and activities online ahead of time for the best deal.
Take a scenic lift ride and hike. If you think the view from the Village is awe-inspiring, wait until you visit the summit. After you ride the Great Escape to the top, take a little stroll on Stewart’s Loop (0.3 miles) or Summit View Loop (0.5 miles) to take in breathtaking views of Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Canada. No matter which direction you look, there’s a picture-perfect backdrop for your next family selfie.
Check out Sky House. Our beautiful mountain-top lodge is Sky House. Swing by to use the restroom, fill up on water, or head up to the second level to grab a refreshing beverage at The Nest. There’s even some merchandise you can check out and purchase right outside the restaurant!
Explore free and fun options across the mountain. In between your adventures, there are plenty of other options, no cash required. The tennis & pickleball courts, along with the playground, are free to use; there are geocaches hidden across the resort, additional hiking trails for those looking for more of a challenge, swimming and fishing at Colburn Lake, and even horseback rides through our partners at Mountain Horse Adventures.
And who knows, maybe the grown-ups can trade off kid duty and sneak in a little time of their own to do some shopping at The Source, grab a craft cocktail at Crow’s Bench, or even get a treatment at Cambium Spa. We’ve planned it; all that’s left is for you to join us and let the summer adventures begin!
