Schweitzer Announces Revised Opening Day for the Winter 2023/24 Ski and Snowboard Season

Sandpoint, ID – Nov. 21, 2023 – Schweitzer, the largest ski resort in Idaho, announced today a revised opening day for the winter 2023/24 ski season. Due to limited early season snowfall and challenging snowmaking conditions, coupled with recent temperature fluctuations, the resort has made the difficult decision to push back the opening day to Saturday, November 25. Originally the resort had tentatively planned to open November 24, conditions-permitting.

"While we may be facing unique challenges this season, the spirit of anticipation and excitement is stronger than ever at Schweitzer," said Tom Chasse, Schweitzer CEO & President. "Our decision to delay the opening by one day allows us to provide the best possible conditions on Midway, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all our guests."

Schweitzer will open for the 2023/24 winter season on Saturday, November 25 at 9:00am and will continue to operate daily conditions permitting.

Key Details:

  • Operating Hours: 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

  • Terrain: Midway trail only, accessed by Basin Express chairlift. There will be no beginner terrain available during this period.

  • Lift Tickets: Lift tickets will be available for purchase on-site at a discounted rate of $50.

  • Dining: A variety of Schweitzer dining outlets are currently open, including Crow's Bench and Gourmandie, with additional options added November 25. View dining locations and hours.

This modified opening day is a testament to the resort’s commitment to delivering a top-tier ski and ride experience. With skiing and riding limited to Midway accessed by the Basin Express lift, skiers and snowboarders can expect a focused and enjoyable experience on the slopes.

“We’re optimistic that our patience for Mother Nature will pay off in the form of abundant snow all season long,” said Chasse. “As we wait for winter to settle into the region, we’ll look for any opportunity to expand lifts and terrain as conditions permit.”
