Questions Regarding Winter 21/22 Operations

There has been a thread circulating on Instagram about Schweitzer with several inaccuracies that’s created some concerns about our intent to operate this coming winter.  I can assure you that we are planning for full operations, 7 days a week, incorporating all front and backside lifts in their typical winter schedule (as weather and conditions allow) from now until April 10, 2022.

During an employee meeting, I unintentionally used the term “Draconian” discussing operating plans should the current OHSA vaccination mandate become a reality. It's unfortunate that my comment made during that meeting was taken out of context and now has caused such a ruckus for our dedicated skiers.

Schweitzer is above the 100 employee threshold that would require employees to provide proof of vaccination or participate in weekly testing for Covid. If the OSHA rules goes into effect, I assume that this testing requirement would result in the loss of approximately 20% of staff members (roughly 100 people) which would create some significant operational challenges including a reduction in lift operations.

Currently, we’ve processed in excess of 550 new and returning staff members through our fall orientation program. Like many local businesses in the hospitality industry, we expect to be challenged this winter but we’ll be creative with operating hours in all of our food & beverage outlets and continue to recruit staff throughout the winter season.

If you’re genuinely concerned about our operations and the impact that Schweitzer has on the Sandpoint community, I am always open to addressing anyone’s concerns face to face rather than on social media. It's unfortunate misinformation is being spread on those platforms by those who claim to be in the know.

Thanks, in advance, and I appreciate your continued support.
