Free and Fun

Family Activities

Just looking to pass the time after a bike ride and before dinner? Check out our list of Free & Fun things to do this summer at Schweitzer!

Available during normal summer opertations, late June through Labor Day.

Tennis & Pickleball Courts

Did you bring your tennis racket or pickleball paddles with you on vacation? Well, you're in luck - we have courts! Access is free and available on a first-come, first served basis for both tennis and pickleball. Need to rent equipment? Stop into the Summer Activity Center and for just $5, you'll be geared up to play!

Geocaching

Geocaching is a great way to get your kids moving while still connected to the electronic world. It's like giant treasure hunts and Schweitzer has 16 caches to find. Three are located right in the village & five are just a medium hike away. There are others on the summit and along the Schweitzer Mountain Road. Use the Android Geocaching app to get you on your way. (iPhone users may need to pay a fee to purchase the best apps.)

Lawn Games

In the village, you’ll find some fun free lawn games to play. Have a turn with the over-sized chess or checkers set then challenge your whippersnapper to a bit of ladder toss for bragging rights all summer long.

Hula Hoops

Can you hula hoop? It’s a blast to get spinning with any one of the hulas available by the Trampoline Jumper and climbing wall.

Basketball

We’ve also got a basketball hoop out on the courts. Borrow a basketball from the Summer Activity Center and go for it!

Books and Board Games

Perhaps your kids (or just you!) need a little outside quiet time. The Selkirk Lodge front desk has books and board games we’d be happy to lend you. Find a comfy picnic table in the village where you can enjoy engaging your future real estate tycoon by playing Monopoly in the sunshine.

More Exploring

Or maybe you’ve got those kinds of kids that need a challenge. How about a hike up the nature trail? That’s right, just take your time and enjoy the views while getting some fantastic exercise. Give about 2 hours to reach the summit and be rewarded with a FREE chairlift ride down the mountain. Just make sure to reach the summit before 5:30pm to get a ride down!

Don’t forget about the great hikes or mountain bike rides out on the cross-country trails too! The trails out there are good for all ages. Bring a picnic and check out the views from Picnic Point or make a day of it and explore our Wolf Ridge and Boomerang trails.

Photography

Summer on the mountain makes learning fun. Use your camera to search out wildflowers and signs of wildlife with a photography treasure hunt. See who can find the most amazing trees, views, or colors in nature’s classroom.
